"Our feature-length DVD of short horror films is great value and gives horror fans a good night's creep," he says.
Miguel Gallego owns Crypt Club Productions Inc. (www.thecryptclub.com), creators of the indie short horror film collection called AAAAAH!! Indie Horror Hits.
Crypt Club Productions Inc. produces and distributes horror, thriller and dark fantasy films. With the collection AAAAAH!! Indie Horror Hits the company compiles great short horror flicks so that fans can enjoy them long after the films finish running in festivals.
"Hundreds of short films play at film festivals every year, then disappear because they're rarely marketable on their own," Gallego says.
"Most distributors and broadcasters focus exclusively on feature films. I thought it was a shame that so many great short films weren't reaching a wider audience."
Gallego had his "eureka" moment when he remembered how K-Tel, the popular record company, became an international success by compiling individual hit songs onto full-length records.
He thought the same model would work well for short horror films.
In addition to exposure for their films, Gallego offers filmmakers a non-exclusive license agreement whereby they keep 100% ownership of their films and receive 50% of DVD profits.
Gallego learned his craft as an assistant director in the film and TV industry before deciding to launch his own company in 2002. "I figured that as long as I'm willing to work hard, I'd rather make my own film dreams come true than to work on someone else's production," he says.
He has a unique perspective on being an entrepreneur. "The best part is that you answer to no one but yourself," he says. "The worst part of being an entrepreneur is the same thing. When you're right you're a genius. When you're wrong you feel that you should have known better."
Future plans for the company include releasing additional DVD titles, making feature-length films, organizing a film festival and continuing to build its brand as the premiere source for great horror entertainment.
"We want to make Halloween a year-round state of mind," Gallego says.
