Jenny Terwoord's company can find the right people for any renovation.
"I wasn't always sure who to call to renovate my home," entrepreneur Jenny Terwoord says. "I realized if I was experiencing this uncertainty, likely other people were too."
Inspired by the need for a dependable source for good quality home renovation contractors, Terwoord launched a company called HomeMedium Inc. (www.homemedium.com).
Her firm finds and pre-qualifies home renovation and repair contractors free for homeowners in Mississauga and Oakville. HomeMedium will connect the homeowner to reliable tradespeople and follow up with each client after a job is completed to keep ongoing records of the contractor's performance.
Terwoord says being a woman in her particular business sometimes catches people by surprise. "A woman is not necessarily who you might expect when you think of home repairs or renovations, but it is often women who make the decisions regarding home improvements and my service gives them more control over the process," she explains.
"I also have extremely high standards for the contractors I represent, which assures any client they're getting the best person for the job."
In business now for almost two years, Terwoord says she loves running her own business. "To me, the chance to learn every day and to grow my network of contractors and clients is the best part.
"The worst part of owning a business is all the multitasking it requires," she says. "I wear a lot of hats."
She's obviously doing a good job for her clients, who rave about her company's ability to save them money and reduce risk.
"Helping to make something easier for people and seeing them satisfied with the end result is the best reward," Terwoord says.
